Skylights

Skylights are a Beautiful Addition to Any Home

If you want natural lighting to light up your home and create a great ambiance, then installing custom made skylights is definitely an option that you should look into. They are a great option to create a more airy kitchen, a more sunny living-room, for creating a grander foyer, and for bringing in cozy lighting into bathrooms and bedrooms.

However, the general maintenance of the skylights of days gone by may have put you off the idea of installing them in your home. These days however roofing professionals such as AABCO have redeveloped skylights to bring you better quality, stronger made skylights to suite your budget and your needs.

Many of the problems that surrounded skylights like leaks and air loss are a thing of the past with raised curb designs and energy-efficient glass and different plastics. However, if you decide to brighten up your home by installing a skylight, make sure your roofing contractor has the proper experience and provides you with the correct skylight for your home.

All skylights must be code compliant, hurricane impact resistant with a State of Florida approval and Miami-Dade notice of acceptance. This ensures your getting what your supposed to. Skylights can be custom made
And come in several different sizes. The most commonly used here in South Florida are the following:

Self – Flashing Skylights. These skylights are designed to fit directly over an opening in the roof deck, they come double domed ( one layer of plastic or glass over another) which comes in clear, white or the most popular bronze over clear offering a tinted effect with either a bronze or milled aluminum finished frame.

Curb mounted skylights which have the same general characteristics as the self –flashing except a curb mount skylight that requires a “curb” to be built for the skylight to mount to making it sit higher off the roofline.

Tubular skylights are a great option if you are restricted due to structural or building restrictions. Tubular skylights are installed by using a shaft that opens up or starts at your roof and extends down into your home or room. Don’t worry, you wont have one round shape of sunlight on your floor – tubular skylights uses optics that spread the captured sunlight and brings more sunlight into your home over more floor surface area.

So whether you are doing some home renovations or hoping to add some light to a dark corner of your home – skylights are a great option.
